Husqvarna 530 Lily

In July 2011, I gave Heidi my Husqvarna 500 Computer to my daughter.  There was a brief period where I thought or hoped that my Bernina 930 Helga would be my new "go to" machine.  I guess old habits die hard,  I missed my Husqvarna.  So I bought this one.
Manufactured in Sweden in 1997 the 530 Lily is a scaled down model of the 500.  Lily does not have as many features or stitches, there is no alphabet, but the body of the machine is identical to the 500.  I bought the 530 Lily in Kanata, Ontario.  She arrived on bus this morning.  Look what a fantastic job the previous owners did packing her up.
The bobbins were in a zip lock bag, the accessories and feet were individually wrapped in bubble wrap.  A surprise bonus in the box was a free motion quilting/darning foot and walking foot.
Lily just happens to have the same name as my dog.
She has an extension which I won't be using because she fits so well in this 1914 Singer treadle cabinet.
This is a shot of the bobbin winder and control panel.  It has a sewing advisor, that includes a selection for leather and vinyl sewing.
The stitches in purple thread were made with the Husqvarna/Viking Lily 530.  She sews lovely, precise stitches.
The Lily 530 wears low shank snap on feet, uses standard needles and the same bobbins as my Pfaff Creative 2.  Welcome home my new "go to" machine.

December has been a great month for me, I sold two sewing machines (Elnas) and bought two sewing machines the Pfaff Creative 2 and this one.   Currently, I own 12 machines, three are listed for sale and one will be given to my son in 2012.  See, I'm getting so close to my goal of owning only 8 or less machines.

Three more sleeps till we fly east to spend Christmas with our daughter and son-in-law.  Happy holidays all.

  2. Hey, thanks for your account on your Lily 550 - I am about to possibly 'inherit' one and was wondering if you are still thrilled about it. Does it do no letters at all i.e. monograming? Thanks and regards, le03mouse

  4. I had a lily, but traded up for a Designer1. Big mistake. D1 turned out to be a lemon. Sold my D1 and bought a Freesia on eBay and love it. I think it is a "cousin" of the Lily. This group of machines may have been Vikings best modern machines. Your blog is fun to read

  7. I am looking to buy a sewing machine and have looked at a used Lily 535 or a new Rose 250m... Would you recommend the old Lily or a new simpler sewing machine? Seems like you have some insight in which sewing machines you want for "go to"...:-)

    1. Hi Carol, do you have the manual for your machine? I sold my Lily last year when I upgraded to the Husqvarna Sapphire. On page 37 of Lily 535 manual it states - Automatic taper stitch
The tapered satin stitch, No 26, is a tapered zigzag which makes it suitable for sewing monograms
      and other embellishments.
      Use presser foot B.
      1. Trace the monogram on the fabric and sew over the lines.
      2. Select tapered satin stitch looks like up and down arrows.
      3. Sew until the desired length is reached.
      4. Touch the reverse button to taper the end.
      5. Touch STOP and sew. The stitch will be repeated in succession and the machine stops automatically when the stitch is finished.

    1. The Lily is a fantastic machine, a dream to sew with. New in Canada the were around $1500. When I sell a used machine I list the asking price $50 more than I want. I'd list yours at $375 hoping to get $325. Hope this helps you out.

  12. Dear fellow sewing-freinds! I am so happy as I think I made the best deal of my life today. I bought a Lily 530 for 40 $! I have been using a Husquarna from the 50 ties and an english Regent from the 50 ties as well. They are great and reliable, but demand some patience when I am quilting and sewing clothes. Last month I bought a Singer from the 70 ties, - a lovely machine, but suddenly it started to smell burnt and continued to run even though I was not pressing the pedal. ( somebody knows what it could be?) Then today I went to the flea marked and then I saw my Lily... At first I was insecure, as if I would be able to handle it, but at the affordable price I bought it. Now looking for the instruction manual, I found your blog. Great to learn that I am not alone. I too have too many (9) machines and my husband does not understand my love for good sewing machines. I send you all the best of wishes from Sweden Patrik
