Necchi Lelia 513 Instruction Manual

Today I scanned and uploaded the instruction manual to google docs.  Please feel free to download and enjoy.  If you do use it, would you please leave a comment here so I know this link was helpful.

Have a super duper day!

I received and replied to this email which may be helpful to others.

Hi,
My name is Patricia and I'm in the East Bay of CA. I found you via the
blog Zigzaggers, which came up in my search to find info on fixing my
Lelia's feed dog issue. I am hoping to pick you brain a bit further.
I do belong to the Necchi user group and have posted this question
there, but no joy! Here is what I wrote/how I can best explain it:
I've been a very happy owner of a Lelia 513 for about a year now. I
bought her in superb condition, with alot of great feet and right away
bought Triflow oil and made sure I kept the machine properly oiled.
I love the stitches and the heavy duty aspect of this machine, it has
taken me a year to truly get to know it. I clean, oil and trouble
shoot using the user's manual and the service manual.
However a few months ago I did start to have some problems with my
feed dog. It seemed to drop and I couldn't get it back up. I did tons
of research and found info about cleaning, oiling and 'unfreezing' the
feed dog mechanism.
I did the whole alcohol clean up, put in tons of oil and then use a
hair dryer. But the lever just goes up/down seemingly not attached to
anything.
I have a feeling I'm not aiming the hairdryer in the proper place.
Where exactly do I aim the heat from the hairdryer?  Is there anything
else I can possibly try to get my feed dog to drop up and down?
Tammy, if you have any insight or advice you can give I would be
eternally grateful!
Best, Patricia

 Hi Patricia,
Before  you try anything more..did your feed dogs ever drop? If you have visited my blog you know I collect vintage machines. Right now my Lelia is set up for free motion quilting with the feed dogs down.  Here is how it works on the Necchi 513.  When the plastic lever is pushed down the feed dogs are disengaged.  This is not automatic I have to turn the hand wheel towards me.  The same is true to raise the feed dogs, I flip the plastic lever up and rotate the hand wheel then the feed dogs re-engage.  This is different than my other vintage machines where button or lever raises and lowers the feed dogs automatically. Would you please try this and let me know if your issue is resolved?

Happy Sewing.

  2. I can't thank you enough for the pdf file of the manual for the necchi lelia 513. I got my machine when my grandmother died in 93, had it serviced, moved on to a modern machine and forgot what all the buttons, levers, etc are suppose to do. Can't wait to sit down with the manual and see if I can get my tension right. (my threads are loose and random stitches aren't tight). Thanks!

  3. Hi I have Necchi Lelia 513 and the bobbin winder washer has disintegrated, it is over 25 years old so can't complain.Does anyone know where I can get a replacement, preferably in England or on the internet?I love my Necchi and wouldn't part with it for a horrid new computerised one so I'm desperate.Thank you so much I would really appreciate any help.

  4. hello annoymous,
without your email address I can only answer your question here and hope you come back to read it. in your comment you state your bobbin winder washer has disintegrated..if you are referring to the little rubber tire that pushes up against the handwheel to wind the bobbin. They are easy to find in Canada. I buy mine new from the Brandon Sewing Centre a local sewing machine dealer who sells new Pfaff, Singer and Husqvarna machines as well as servicing all makes. He charges me $2.50 each and can order any size from a parts book. I've replaced the rubber tire on most of my vintage machines including my 1910 Bernard Stoewer Treadle machine. I would expect any sewing machine repair shop in England would be able to get this little rubber tire for you.

    Hope this helps.

  8. Hi!
I tried to see this manual but couldn't, as I just got one of these machines from my mum and it needs some tlc to work again. My mum has her own sewing machine (not a necchi) and this was my gran's, so it's been sitting silent for about 25 years and I'd love to use it. Is there any way to get access to the manual as it says I need authorisation?
    Many thanks,
    Gillian

  9. Hello Gillian, I don't know what is up with this link! I set up so that anyone with the link can download the manual but it doesn't appear to work correctly, as I have received over half a dozen email requests for this manual. Would you please send me your email address requesting authorization to share this manual and I will add your address to the list of people sharing the manual.

  10. Hi Tammy, I have recently acquired a Necchi Lelia for sewing some sailboat sails. It does a fantastic job of it. I would appreciate some advice on a little problem I have encountered; the machine sews quite happily for a period of time, then suddenly the machine stops and is difficult to turn, even by hand. On the underside the thread is bundled and jammed in the bobbin shuttle. Please also allow me to download your Necchi Lelia manual. Regards Gus Mostert South Africa

  15. Hi Tammy. I just bought a Necchi Leila 510. When I first set it up it seemed to operate beautifully. Now I can't seem to get the feed dogs to operate. I know I'm doing something wrong but I don't have the manual. I ordered one on Ebay but it will be a while before it arrives. The machine appears to be in great condition but i'm sure it needs a cleaning and oiling. I would appreciate any help you can provide. My email is carlaclarke@gmail.com Thanks!

  18. I just acquired a Necchi Lelia 513. The motor works but the wheel will only turn partially both directions. We have started to take her apart and after oiling her, believe the gears are bound. I really need a repair manual. Thanks.

  21. Have you any idea why my Necchi Lelia 513 has suddenly begun to have the finger on the tension assembly jump out of the slot while I am sewing? How can I stop this from happening?

  24. Hi Tammy ,
I have been using my Leila 513 for many years , and recently (finally) got my hands on the "button knob" , however after inserting said item , it doesn't turn I have oiled what I think is the leavers for button holing , but it still doesn't want to turn .... any idea wher I should apply oil/heat gun to free up the mechanism ?

    cheers

  25. My apologies if this is a repeat of a previous comment/question. I'm wondering why the feed dog of my Lelia 513 will not move. The lever moved, but the feed dog doesn't. Any ideas for me?

    Thanks,

    2. Hi Tammy! Thanks so much for your reply. Believe it or not, right now I can't get the bobbin out - stuck in the machine.

I somehow did manage to do some free-motion embroidery with the correct foot, but then when I went back to the normal foot, it wasn't feeding properly. I think the thing needs a good overhaul so that may be my only solution right now.

    3. Got the bobbin out - that's settled. It doesn't seem to be feeding right, altho it appears that the teeth are raised. Trying to do some regular straight sewing. The lever to supposedly raise and lover the feed dog does not seem to have any effect at all. Servicing might be necessary. Your thoughts?

    4. Hi Louise, when you were free motion quilting did you set the stitch length dial to zero? If yes, then turn it up to a number higher than zero like about 2.5. When you turn the hand wheel towards yourself do the feed dogs move up and down? Please contact Ed Lamoureaux:

  26. Hi Tammy! I've just had the machine serviced - probably 3rd or 4th time since I've had it (1968), so that was necessary. It seems to be working right now. I thank you for your suggestions and will contact Ed if I need to.

  30. HI Tammy, I've got the Lelia 513, had it for 38 years; my boyfriend (now husband) bought it for me for our first xmas together and it's still going strong, as are we. thank you for the manual - I lost mine when we moved. My question is regarding twin needles. Can you use a twin on this machine as the needles thread from the side and when I insert a twin needle with the flat side on the holder, with the needle eyes at the side, the twin needles are one behind the other rather than side by side in the direction of sewing, if that makes sense. My machine won't sew if I put a single needle in with the eye at the front rather than the side, so I can't see how I can sew with a twin needle (ie for 2 rows of stitching) on this machine but I've read that you can....i'e tried it but can't get it to work.... thank you for a great site and I hope you will be able to respond. Thanks

  32. Hi I! First THANK YOU!!!! A couple years ago my grandma passed and my parents gave me one (yes one of man) of her machines. I only now took it out of the case. One thing I couldn’t find in the manual is what the numbers and lever on the left side of machine are? In the manual the button knob to the far left Top is just an oil place. But it moves the lever to the left side to corresponding numbers, any idea what that is??
Apologies as I am still novice with machines!
    Thank you!

    1. No need to apologize Cara, not sure what lever and numbers you are referring to. would you please email me a photo? I believe the numbers and lever I see on the left side of the harp of the Necchi in this post are the zig zag stitch width... larger number, wider stitch. Hope this makes sense.

  33. Hi there! Thanks so much. I now have my mother's old Necchi Leila 512 and haven't used it yet. There is a manual for it, but it's in French, so I am so very happy to find your manual in english for the 513. It should be close enough to the 512!
    Thanks again!
