Clutch two zipper cell phone case.

Much to my great delight, this little case was too small for Karyann's cell phone.  Yippee!! I'm keeping it for me.  Back to the drawing board, Karyann wants a clutch bag big enough for her cell phone, with a separate compartment for her ID and money.  How hard can that be?  Well, of course I have no pattern, the wonderful tutorial I was using really wouldn't work for a clutch case.  So I snooped around the net the only thing that was close was noodle head's snappy manicure wallet.  After modifications, this is the first result:

The outside is PUL, which is used for outside covers on cloth diapers, wet bags, splash pants and raincoats.  It is wonderful soft fabric that is not only waterproof, but also breathable.

I have learned that PUL has just enough stretch to make it really tricky to get all the seams straight.  Note the orange zipper is slightly crooked.  Grrrrr!!

The seam on the fold line marked with white chalk will stop the money and ID from slipping down to the bottom fold over part of the clutch.

The  fold over at the bottom has a layer of quilting to protect the phone.  

More modifications, to put the money and ID pouch on the outside of the clutch as well as eliminate the bottom 1/3 fold over were made to my non-existent pattern.  I queried my daughter-in-law on fabric choices and zipper colours.

Of course, the thread will be colour coordinated to match the zippers.

 Karyann picked yellow and blue, most excellent choices. 

 Next question with or without zipper tabs?

Both of these clutch bags will be given to Karyann. Sometime in the future there will be a tutorial complete with pattern for clutch number three, four or five. These zippered cases are quick and fun to make. There's a ton of immediate gratification to finishing a project the same day it was started.

Two zipper cell phone case

Karyann (daughter-in-law) wanted a cell phone case with two pouches to carry identification and money in a separate space.

The climber's clip and key ring are optional.

 

The PUL fabric is sewn with 100% polyester thread, then 20 minutes in a hot clothes dryer seals the needle holes to keep water out.  

 The phone pouch is lined with quilted cotton.

 The birds' print and orange zipper tabs are PUL fabric.  

 The vibrant pink lining and zipper tabs are 100% nylon.

Again I followed the basics from Deby's tutorial for a mini zippered pouch at So-Sew-Easy.

I made another diaper wet bag.  I modified the original design as follows:

• dropped the zipper 3 inches from the top
• added zipper tabs
• did not line it
• boxed the corners at the bottom 
• only one pouch

The birds' print is PUL fabric and the pink straps are 100% nylon, the same nylon I use when making shopping bags and the back side of baby bibs.

Scrap busting the only notion purchased for wee purse was the zipper $1.25 CAD.

It is 7.5 inches wide and 5.5 inches tall.  The outside is 100% quilting cotton. The zipper tabs and  carrying handle are 100% nylon.

It is lined with quilted cotton fabric breast cancer pink ribbons good side, polyester batting, then plain white cotton on wrong side.

The straps are snapped into place with Babyville boutique snaps. These snaps come in pretty colours and are easy to install.

There is no top seam so my handle was sewn in at the top of the side seam.

The corners are boxed on the bottom.

Next project a cell phone case for my daughter-in-law.

Bose Blue Tooth Speaker Zippered Case.

More fun with this excellent tutorial for mini zipper pouches.  Deby at So Sew Easy also includes a wonderful video with step by step instructions.  I made a carrying case for my husband's Bose Blue Tooth Speaker.

The Bose zippered pouch needed to be big enough to fit the charger and cord as well as easy to slip the speaker inside.  The calculation I used:

• width plus depth plus 1.65" for seam allowance and easement (5" + 2.1" + 1.65" = 8.75")
• height plus depth plus 1.65" for seam allowance and easement (5.3"+ 2.1" + 1.65" = 9.15")
• the zipper tabs are 2.5" by 2.5"

The seam allowances are .25" on the zipper tabs and to sew the bag together opposite the zipper end.  The seam allowance at the top and bottom of the zipper are .5".  The 1.65" seam allowance includes the extra space inside.  The boxed corners are a sewn 1.5" line from the corner.

The inside is soft polar fleece for padding.

The outside is waterproof outdoor fabric.

The fit is good.

Hindsight is always 20/20, the next time I'm making one for a hard surface device, the zipper will be off centre a couple of inches from one end to make it even easier to slip the device in and out.

Just because I had a short brown zipper and left over scrap fabric from my brother's place mats, a small pouch was created.

With lovely boxed corners.

That is shorter and wider than the cell phone case.

Zippered cell phone case.

Yesterday I found an excellent tutorial on Facebook complete with utube video to make a mini zippered pouch.  Of course, I needed to make one of these for my cell phone.  Here is my first try.

The outside is recycled denim from old blue jeans.  The inside is scrap flannel from sleep pants.

There is interfacing on the denim and I put quilt batting on inside flannel layer.  This was a mistake.  It was difficult to sew through six layers of denim, plus two layers of quilt batting and flannel where the zipper tabs are.  I thought it needed the extra padding but it was too bulky to box the corners.   This one is long enough, but too wide for my cell phone.

These fabric pieces were 7 inches by 5 inches.  The zipper was 9 inches and the zipper tabs were 2.5" squares.  

 Inside out.  

It is too wide for just my cell phone, but there is room for other items, such as a house key, money etc. Most likely it will be my go to bag for walking the dog.  The key ring makes it easy to attach to a golf bag or belt loop with no fear of it falling out of a pocket and getting lost or wet.

Today I measured my cell phone and made another.  These fabric pieces are 7 inches by 3.5 inches, zipper is 9 inches and zipper tabs are 2.5 by 2.5 inches.  I did box the corners but did not like the look, so I ripped them out.

 100% quilting cotton on the inside.

Recycled denim jeans on the outside.

The fit is good.

What a quick, easy, fun project to use up scraps from bigger projects.  I think these little zippered pouches have multiple uses, can be custom sized and would make excellent gifts.
